Organizations engaged in commercial transportation in Russia are required by law to equip cars with tachographs.
This device is a technical means of control. Designed for continuous recording of vehicle speed, tracking the route of movement, as well as the time of work and rest of the driver.
The “black box" of the vehicle consists of several modules:
The absence of the device in the car or its intentional damage entails an administrative fine:
If the tachograph records a violation of the driver’s operating mode, the fine will be from 1 to 3 thousand rubles.
Currently, tachographs must be installed on the following categories of vehicles:
The use of old-style appliances is prohibited. These include: AETR tachographs installed in production before 04/01/2014, and AETR tachographs installed in service centers until 03/11/2014.
Installation of a tachograph is required regardless of who owns the vehicle. The determining factor is whether the car belongs to the categories M2 and M3 (passenger buses for transportation from 8 people, not counting the driver) and N2 and N3 (trucks weighing 2.5 tons or more, used to transport any goods).
These vehicles must run on international and intercity routes. Otherwise, installing a “black box” is optional.
Tachographs are equipped with technical centers that have the appropriate permission for this.
Installing the tachograph as follows:
Engaged in the installation of tachographs is prohibited. The use of illegally mounted equipment is equivalent to its absence. Indications recorded by an unauthorized tachograph will be deemed legally invalid.
