Tachograph calibration is an important step in the operation of the device. The setup period of the flight recorder with the CIPF unit is determined by order No. 47 of the Ministry of Transport of Russia dated December 17, 2013. Calibration is usually carried out every three years.
Some tachograph manufacturers recommend calibration more often. This is also required by the traffic police. Therefore, many fleet owners calibrate every two years.
Replacement of the cryptographic information protection block should be carried out once every three years. The setting period for European tachographs is once every two years.
Calibration helps verify the accuracy of the vehicle’s technical measurements. After its implementation, you can enter the received information into the memory of the control device.
This procedure is necessary to determine the vehicle speed, mileage, wheel speed and gas mileage.
There are a number of cases where you may need additional tuning of the tachograph off schedule. Most often resort to calibration when changing tires on the drive wheels and replacing the gearbox.
In case of replacement of the cryptographic information protection unit, it is also necessary to configure the flight recorder.
Owners of transport companies and fleets are required to reconfigure the tachographs on vehicles in case of changes in the documents of the car owner and replacement of the registration number.
Modernization of the tachograph, violation of the seal and change of ownership of the car are the reasons that prompt the calibration of the “black box” of the car.
There is another reason for unscheduled customization. Calibration should be performed if the clock showing the UTC time is behind or ahead by more than 20 minutes.
Self-repair and adjustment of the on-board control device is prohibited. This procedure is carried out by service centers that have received a calibration certificate for tachographs from the Federal State Institution “Rosavtotrans” and accredited by equipment manufacturers.
